United at the death beat old City rivals, thanks to a scouser, you just can’t write a script like it, life better than fiction, first Manchester derby I have missed in 4 years, and this is the one which seems to be the one to end all derbies. Ah well, plenty of others to come. Well let’s see if it does the trick for United’s less than convincing start to the season in terms of performances.
As for the boys - U15s - we got off to our first win in the cup today, thanks to a patched up team and a superb hat-trick by my centre forward Ben. he scored a very late winner with a last kick of the match from the edge of the area after a mix up between keeper and defender. However, we conceded defeat because we were playing two unregistered players. I didn’t want to incur a club fine, money which can be better spent elsewhere. Our Greg was ill, Keeper Toby felt sick and dizzy (another sterling display) and so we had players under the weather.
Greg has settled well into central midfield, and has the technique to look for the pass, and had two wonderful dribbles today leaving their No 7 on his backside. Big Keiran needs his fitness levels to be improved, there were some flagging players at the end, but on the whole we deserved our victory against Cookham Dean.

Ah well number 1 beckons once more, electrician, house clearance, and a carpet man, all coming to give me final quotes or when they can complete the jobs to hand. More importantly the garden is getting back in control once more. I have my machete and garden fork to hand, ready for the battle ahead.
I am coming towards the end of my 4 week holiday, so need to blitz as much as I can whilst time is available. The football season is upon us, Chesham Strides, u15s, I wonder how many players I will get? I have the new South Africa Worls Cup Ball for our matches, chuffed with that, we will have the best ball in the division.
Somehow the professional football season doesn’t excite me as in previous years, I don’t think its the Ronaldo effect, just lack of drive and interest, albeit I read the papers online everyday to keep in touch.
Some birthday wishes to be announced:
Barry on 9th August, hope it was a good day last Sunday
Peter on 11th August, hope he enjoyed his day too, so greetings to you both. I hope each family sang happy Birthday to youoooo! and the cake was shared by many.
I am also off to see United for the first match of the season, ho hum - will our new number 7 score? Will he be as sharp as this swordfish in the Aquarium, Oddysseum, Montpellier, sorry about camera shake as fish do move around!

All to play for and all to lose, will United be the bride or the bridesmaid over the next month?
Penalty! some are given others not, united had a stonewall penalty agaist Everton - I was there at Wembley sitting over 60 yards away and of course in the red end, we screamed penalty only to denied by Old Mother Riley, yesterday we all repeated ourselves in the East Stand - penalty - and this time it look conclusive until apparently tv replays from ‘n’ angles disproved. We saw it at the same speed as the ref, our concern was whether Gomes would be sent off. Thank goodness he wasn’t otherwise there would be more hot air wasted over the penalty. i.e. video replays for refereees etc. One week you get a pen the next you don’t, as they all claim it evens itself out over 8 moths. yesterday was United’s evening out. Penalty - Ronaldo - goal.. nuff said.
United win 5-2 and it is about time they played like Champions, they have been searching for performances like this for 15 home games. Now can they sustain it for at least 7 more games?
Off to OT for the Champions League Semi on Weds versus Arsenal, hopefully it will be as nerve wracking and exciting as Saturday versus Spurs.
Can they do it? yes! will they do it? yes! will it be close? yes! will I have egg on my face? yes! - thats the unpredictability of sport.
Last U14 boys get together on Saturday 2nd May - player of the year awards ceremony, who will win? wait until Sunday.
Then theatre to see ‘An Inspector Calls’ with Emily and probably to Derbyshire for hedge trimming etc.
